About our school

Ashmole Greek School offers quality Greek language education to nearly 300 children of Greek and Greek Cypriot origin.  We are a very happy, caring and supportive school. We have a great team of teachers and support staff that work really hard to ensure that all the children make good progress.

Our school follows the analytical programme specially devised by the Cyprus Ministry of Education and Culture for the community schools in the UK, which provides a curriculum that is both stimulating and challenging.

Our aim is to cultivate well-rounded individuals who are aware and proud of their heritage, history and origins. So in addition to the tuition of the Greek language, each child has the opportunity to learn about other aspects of their heritage such as Greek and Cypriot history, geography, culture, the Greek Orthodox Christian faith, music and traditional dance. These experiences are enhanced through the children's participation in the various cultural events and celebrations throughout the academic year, which are organised by the school in conjunction with the school committee. These events include yiortes held to celebrate Easter, Oxi Day, Grammata, Greek and Cypriot National Days and Christmas. We also organise an annual dinner and dance which gives the friends and family a chance to watch all the children participating in traditional dancing whilst wearing the traditional costumes. This is a wonderful way to come together as a Greek and Greek Cypriot community.

We believe that close cooperation between home and school is essential and so we aim to keep parents as informed as possible about the progress their children are making, the methods we use to teach the children and ways in which they can support their children’s learning.

The behaviour of pupils is very good and we focus a lot on developing each child’s ability to understand and improve their own learning skills.

Ashmole Greek School is a popular, prominent and very active school within the Greek community in North London. It is run within the building of Ashmole Academy in heart of Southgate in North London, with its extensive facilities.

We occupy a specific area of the building, which can only be accessed from a specific entrance to the side of the building. During our school hours we have exclusive use of a number of classrooms, boys and girls separate toilets, the stage and assembly hall, the seated area of the cafeteria. We also have use in common with others of the car park and school grounds.

The lower classes are generally held in classrooms located on the ground floor of the building and the upper classes are held in classrooms located on the first floor.

The school operates every Saturday during term time. The hours for 2023/2024 are between 10am to 1pm for all classes from Nursery to Year 5. Year 6 and GCSE classes operate between 9.30am to 1.30pm. We accept children for the Nursery class from age 3+ years as long as they no longer require to wear a nappy during the day.
